Western Australia - Coral Bay

Coral Bay - Manta Ray Snorkelling, 3.11.2017

Arriving in Coral Bay we found a nice and tiny village on the coast. We slept a camping ground close to the beach - but everything is close to the beach at Coral Bay. Honestly there is not much to do, than having a walk on the beach to a shark birth ground, which is pretty cool. You can see the shadows of the sharks swimming near the shore. During a morning walk we even saw dolphins in the coastal waters. Highlight in Coral Bay was the Manta Ray Snorkelling we did. Swimming with these giants is a lifetime experience. We definitely will come back for only this reason - maybe then during the Wale-shark season. They told us that in late October, only few of them may hang around in the waters of the Ningaloo Reef. We haven't been lucky with Wale-sharks - but therefore the Manta Ray fully ga.ve us his attention. We have been very lucky with the trip as many sharks, a leopard shark, turtles and many other Maine wildlife have been with us this day. Unforgettable.

The next major stop after Coral Bay is the area around Shark Bay. As it is quite a long drive of around 590 km. Therefore, we decided to stay one night at the Gladstone Nationalpark. There was not many campers in this park. So be prepared for all flies in this area being able to concentrate on you. Especially breakfast was not very convenient as we every bite should be controlled if it was bread or a fly just entering the mouth.

The drive itself was beautiful. Additionally, we enjoyed two cool spots for short breaks on our journey:

Southside Plantations - Carnarvon Shire, 4.11.2017
Southside Plantations - Carnarvon Shire, 4.11.2017

One spot is the  Quobba Blowholes: It is impressive to see what power the ocean has. With every wave, the water is pressed through holes in the rocks at the beach. You can watch fountains of meters height.

Secondly, we used the fruit plantations in the area of Carnarvon Shire to stock up our fruits and vegetables. Do not be afraid of spiders which may be around at the plantation. The children on the farms, who sold the fresh fruits, have not been afraid either. We were lucky that we recognized that the roof of the farm was fully covered with spider webs when we were already done with our shopping. But you can imagine how fast we have been back to our safe vehicle.
