It has been the 3rd time for Isabella - the 2nd time for Flo - we like this little island in the near of Phuket/Thailand. The first time for us was in 2013, when we first travelled to Asia.
What makes this destination so good:
From Singapore, it is only a short flight to Phuket and the transfer to the island takes not too long. A 20 minutes bus ride and another 20 minutes on a speedboat - and you can deep into the Thai hospitality.
Furthermore, the resort was our first higher end resort we visited. So maybe we feel already a certain nostalgia going there.
And most important for us nowadays: we can immediately calm down, relax, enjoy the nice food and also the spa treatments.
When traveling to Koh Yao Yai, you are more or less in the middle of the Phang Nga Bay. This area is famous for the limestone karts that jut vertically out of the deep green waters of the bay. We took a private boat ride through the area and went up to the floating village "Koh Panyee". The nature you see on this trip is amazing, although there is nothing more to see than the limestones, it is impressive - we have been taking pictures non-stop although we saw this region before.
On the way to the village you have the chance to walk into caves and visit "James Bond" island. Yes, the locals name all the islands where movies have been made after the movie titles. It feels sometimes a little touristy and the water may be a little packed at the hotspots. But having booked a private boat comes with the benefit that you are more flexible and it is you who can decode where to go - and for how long. And the private boat was cheaper than booking a tour with the hotel. We never had a bad experience so far when taking the ride with a local we met on the beach. Their English is not the best, which means communication is complicated - but in the end, they know where to go and what to do anyways.
We spent most of the time in the resort itself, enjoying pool life, spa treatments, sundowners - which are amazing here - and just the fact that we did not have to care about anything.
