Western Australia - Francois Peron Nationalpark

It took us 820 km from Perth to Denham, which is a small city in the Shark Bay area. On our way we had a stop at Jurien Bay as you cannot make it up all the way from Perth in one ride.

Francois Peron Nationalpark can only be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive - so we were happy to hit the sandy roads in the park.

The landscape of Francois Peron is probably best known for its contrasting landscapes: Turquoise water - stunning red cliffs - in between white beaches. On the way through the park you also cross several clay pans. It is amazing to take the ride through the park.

We started our trip into the park in the early morning, so we had enough time to first go to the top of the island - 'Cape Peron'.

On the way up, we also went to Herald Bight, where we got stuck near the beach. God bless you are never alone in WA Nationalparks - there were some locals helping us out of the sand after a while. The solution to get out of the sad: stay calm - admit it to yourself the just pressing the gas will not be the solution. You might use a shovel to dig a path for sure tires. A flip-flop may also help. Switch the gear to Low Gear and gently drive out.  Once you made it and know how to handle these situations, driving through the softest sand is pure fun.

Having arrived at Cape Peron, we had the opportunity to take impressive and colorful pictures. We had a some lunch on the red beach and we were lucky to be surprised by dolphins. We spotted them hunting directly in the shallow waters - they swam no more than 5 meters next to us.

Once we had enough photos we decided to camp at the Big Lagoon. The name is self explanatory - the lagoon is a huge and impressive landscape.
We enjoyed the sunset on a small hill near the beach. And once the sun is set - there is nothing more to do than enjoying the a glass of wine and watching the stars.

Francois Peron is special - the colors, the lagoons, the offroad driving - it is worth going there. This Park is probably one of the best we have been to so far. Would we go there again? - yes for sure.
Those who visit Monkey Mia for feeding the wild dolphins should not skip visiting Fracois Peron. We did this on our first trip to Western Australia - and we were really wondering why we haven't been there earlier.
