Leaving Karijini National Parkit is a long way to go. The next major destination is Broome, which is 960 km away from the park. Therefore, we decided to stay a night in Port Headland on our way. Arriving in Port Headland, we realized that we are not the only campers who defined this place as their place for a break. The campground we wanted to go was fully booked and the alternative campsite was somehow no alternative for us. Therefore, we decided to go another 150km and sleep at Pardoo Roadhouse.
We left Port Headland during sunset - and then it was dark. We knew about the problem of stray animals, so we drove very carefully. There was not much traffic anymore, and god bless we had no kangaroos running in front of the car. That was we were afraid of - the kangaroos. What we did not expect was: a cow. A cow standing in the middle of the street. It was more than close. What a shock. And this stray animal did not even move when were were coming along. Not the best place for a break. But fortunately nothing happened. We will never drive in the darkness in Australia. End of story.
After a sleep in the Pardoo Roadhouse we made reached Broome in the early afternoon. So we had time to camp up, have some dinner and enjoy the amazing sunset on the beach.
Broome itself is a small city - good vibes and a cool atmosphere. We do not know what exactly it was, but probably we were also happy to be back in the civilization after a couple of days in the bush.
In Broome, a never realized dream for Flo came true: a trip on a fishing charter. We haven't been lucky with our catches. All fish we pulled out of the ocean was not tasty. So we threw them back I not the ocean. In the later afternoon, we did some Barracuda fishing - and only seconds after they put the bait - in this case a plastic fake fish - Spanish Mackerels were on the hook. It is a tough fight against these strong fishes. And their battle for survival also attracted some sharks. We know this as one fisher pulled in the head of a Spanish Mackerel only - the body was meant for the shark.
The Mackerel was also the only catch we could take away - which was good. Enough for three dinners, the fish was pretty tasty.
Back on shore, we just enjoyed ourselves doing nothing. Again watching a stunning sunset on the beach and being proud of having caught a fish - and even more proud to have released a few not tasty ones.
