The fact emperor Tiberius decided to move from Rome to Capri indicates that Capri is a quite good place to be. Having visited the island as well as the area around - the Amalfi Coast - we can totally understand why you want spend some time in this part of Italy.
Crystal clear waters, stunning rock formations around Capri, awesome sunsets, beautiful tiny villages along the coastline let you forget all your problems. Capri and the Amalfi Coast are one of the most beautiful places we have been to so far.
The Italian life style with all its food and vines in combination with a breathtaking landscape is all you need on vacation.
Visiting the Amalfi Coast there is one thing you must not miss: drive along the coastline - a beautiful but small road along the Amalfi Coast.
On the way, you should take your time and enjoy the small villages: Especially Amalfi and Positano are worth to spend some time. There is not much to do - but just being there and strolling around is more than good. Having a coffee, light lunch, or dinner at one of the authentic Italian restaurants is all you should do.
Of course there are hidden beaches, beach clubs and walks you can do - but you need time, which we decided rather to spend on Capri.
From Amalfi to Sorrento you need more than half a day. It seems to be a short distance only - but it really takes time to make the way as there is no fast driving possible. The streets are quite tiny and often one-way.
Having arrived at Sorrento, you have a beautiful view on the vulcany Mount Vesuvius - probably the only thing which differentiates Sorrento from Amalfi and Positano besides the fact that Sorrento is closer to Nepals and therefore, a little less relaxed than the little city along the coastline.
Having spent one night at a hotel in Sorrento, we took the boat to Capri and stayed on the island for 3 days. Caro is awesome. It is a place where you can just relax, take swims in the beautiful waters, and enjoy the scenic landscape. We have visited August' Gardens from where you have a perfect view on the famous rock formation Faraglioni.
But the even better view on the Faraglioni is from the boat. Getting on a boat trip around Capri is probably the best thing you can do on the island. Just make sure that you do not end up on one of the big tourist ships that push you from sighting to sighting. We have booked a private boat for a group of 4 incl. drinks and a skipper. And it was perfect. The skipper took over all the responsibility, took us to the best places at the right time - dropped us at one of the best seafood restaurants we can imagine and made the day a special one.
There are no further words needed. Visiting Capri is an easy holiday. It is a tiny place, you will easily find out what to do there. From boat trip to beach club, from seafood to pasta. There is not much what can go wrong.
